A Wonderful Beginning: Our First Community Workshop

We hoped our first community workshop would bring people together—to share what we’ve learned, answer questions, and help homeowners feel more confident about the road ahead. Seeing around 50 community members gather at Harmony House Interiors for Before You Remodel was a wonderful beginning.
On October 1, our Fairbank Special Services team joined our co-hosts Emily and Jenni of Harmony House Interiors and guest speaker, architect Sini Kamppari, for an evening of learning and connection. Appetizers, wine, and a welcoming setting made room for introductions, familiar faces, and conversations about the places we call home.
Remodeling often begins with an idea—and plenty of questions. Who should you call first? What should happen before drawings begin? When do budgets, schedules, and selections come into the picture?
Together, we explored those early decisions and how thoughtful preparation can help prevent delays, added costs, and frustration. Bringing construction, interior design, and architectural perspectives into one room offered homeowners a fuller picture of the process, with a shared message: a successful remodel begins long before construction starts.
For our FSS team, these workshops are an opportunity to share industry knowledge with the community we’re grateful to serve. We want to give homeowners a comfortable place to ask questions, explore possibilities, and better understand their next steps.
One especially meaningful part of the evening was welcoming Janie Ekberg, one of Fairbank Construction’s first custom home clients. Like so many of our clients, Janie became a longtime friend. Having her with us connected this new beginning to the relationships that have shaped our company over the years.

Those relationships mean so much to us. We have the privilege of working on homes, but the people who live in them are what make our work personal. Seeing old friends alongside neighbors we were meeting for the first time was a lovely reminder of why we wanted to start this series.
Our heartfelt thanks to Jenni Kupersmith and Emily Kissel of Harmony House Interiors for co-hosting and opening their beautiful space; to Sini Kamppari for generously sharing her architectural knowledge; and to everyone who spent the evening with us. Your presence made this first gathering special.
Before You Remodel was the first in a series of community workshops, and we’re excited for what’s ahead. We look forward to sharing more practical knowledge, continuing the conversations, and welcoming you again.
From all of us at Fairbank Construction Company, thank you for being part of such a wonderful beginning.
