WHEN WHEELS ARE OUR FEET

Reflecting on the accessible ramp our team built at Fay Bainbridge Park to help everyone reach the water’s edge.

A while back, our crew at Fairbank Construction had the privilege of building something simple, yet deeply meaningful: a wooden ramp leading from the trail to the shoreline at Fay Bainbridge Park.
The goal was clear—create safe, wheelchair-accessible passage so that more people could experience the sea, up close and on their own terms.
We built it with care, laying each board by hand under a wide blue sky, with the sound of the surf just beyond the grass and driftwood. But more than just a structure, this ramp stands as a quiet reminder:
“When wheels are our feet, access matters.”

It’s not just about mobility—it’s about dignity, independence, and being part of the shared experience of nature.
Looking back, we’re proud of the craftsmanship, but even more so of what it represents. Whether it’s a wheelchair, a walker, or a stroller—everyone deserves a way to get closer to the water.
We’re grateful to have played a small part in making that connection possible and remain committed to building spaces that welcome all.
